Electrical Installations and Upgrades

In this rapidly changing world, your home’s electrical system could become the weakest link, preventing you from enjoying today’s rapidly advancing technology. The professionals at Francis Electric can help you learn more about how updating your home’s aging electrical system can make your home more user-friendly.

Circuit Breaker Installation

Electricity is a basic necessity to run our homes and offices, and it’s all managed by your circuit breaker. Our lives have become filled with new and advanced devices, computers, and appliances.  This means the circuit breakers of today must be able to handle the increased demand for electricity. The electrical company you choose matters a great deal when it comes to breaker panel services. At Francis Electric, we understand that.  Our professional installation of your circuit breaker is crucial to its safe operation. We know that circuit breakers must be installed to code for safety and insurance reasons. It’s a serious task that we take seriously.

We Can Replace Electrical Panels

An electrical system typically consists of several separate electrical circuits that provide electricity to various areas of a building. The electrical panel (i.e. breaker panel; breaker box) is the core of the electrical system and distributes the electricity to each of the electrical circuits.

As devices become more technologically advanced, businesses must adapt to keep pace. Many business’ electrical systems do not have the capacity to support today’s high-powered devices.

Waiting to upgrade your building’s circuitry may risk interrupted service, leading to data loss, or possibly fire. The professionals at Francis Electric can inspect your circuit panels to ensure that your business has the capacity to support you and your employee’s electrical needs without the risks caused by a faulty or insufficient panel.

Ballast Replacements

If you have any fluorescent, HID, or specific types of LED lighting, they depend upon a ballast to make it work.  In a nutshell, the ballast manages the electricity for proper distribution by acting as a current regulator. The ballast is connected to the wiring system to control, regulate, and stabilize the light output throughout the fixture.  Ballasts are matched specifically to the type of light bulb they operate, and not all ballasts are compatible.

Commercial ballasts, for instance, are used with fluorescent lights to limit current to fluorescent bulbs and prevent them from increasing uncontrollably, overheating and burning out.  Compared to residential fluorescents, commercial fluorescents produce stronger magnetic interference, as well as more heat, making proper installation by a skilled electrician important in protecting against fire hazards and interference with electronic devices.

EVSE Installation Services

EVSE, or electric vehicle charging stations, function to supply electric energy to recharge electric vehicles.  The professionals at Francis Electric can provide professional EVSE installation and service. We install EVSE equipment to conform to all National Electrical Code and permit requirements.  In addition, a start-up inspection is performed to verify your equipment is functioning properly in its operational environment.
We are happy to answer any questions you may have.

GFCI Outlets

GFCI stands for Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter.

GFCI outlets are typically found in areas of buildings where water is present, (such as kitchens and bathrooms) which increases the risk of shock or shorting out. They can be identified by the “test” and “reset” buttons located on the receptacle.  These outlets help protect you from electrical hazards by monitoring the amount of electricity flowing through the circuit and sensing when there is going to be an overload or a shock; then the GFCI outlet will turn itself off before the shock can occur.

If your GFCI outlet stops the flow of power under normal operating conditions and the conditions are safe, the GFCI can be manually reset by pressing the “reset” button to restore power. GFCI’s are much more reliable than depending on the circuit breaker in your electrical box to trip and stop current flow, as they are sensitive to even small variations in current. In fact, they are designed to operate before electricity can affect your heartbeat. Because of this function, it is important to check all of the GFCI outlets in your home monthly.  Occasionally a GFCI outlet will not reset. This is a serious problem that needs the attention of a licensed electrician

A transformer is an electrical device which transfers electricity from one electric circuit to another, without changing the frequency. A transformer is used to increase or decrease the current being transferred so that it can operate at the appropriate voltage safely and efficiently. Industrial equipment does not always run off of the type of circuit that a building offers. That’s why industrial applications rely on transformers to get the right voltage to electrical equipment.

Transformers are used to meet a wide variety of needs, and there are several types of transformers.  The professionals at Francis Electric are able to identify the right transformer to fit your specific needs.

Ceiling Fan Installation

The ceiling fan might just be the most useful appliance of all. In San Antonio, installing a ceiling fan can save you a fortune off your energy bills while also providing air circulation to defeat that southern heat and humidity. Quality installation of a ceiling fan rewards you with years of quiet comfort.

Francis Electric offers ceiling fan replacement and new installation services so you can enjoy greater comfort, more welcoming decor, and better overhead lighting. Our ceiling fan services are always performed by friendly, licensed, and insured electricians.

New ceiling fan installation involves running new wiring near the center of the ceiling, where the fan motor is wired to a junction box. The fan itself must be securely mounted to a joist capable of supporting the weight comfortably.  For a ceiling fan replacement, the wiring might already be there. However, you should get a licensed electrician to wire the motor and secure the fixture. And Francis Electric is here to offer you quality installations at affordable prices.

Exhaust Fan Installation

Exhaust fans can make the rooms in your home more pleasant, more comfortable and healthier. Exhaust fans provide necessary ventilation to areas of the house that have no other means to ventilate, or where additional spot ventilation is needed.  You might need to install exhaust fans in the overly humid or odorous parts of your home, or if the existing fans don’t work. Francis Electric are the professionals to call when your exhaust fans need repair, or if new fans are needed.

Child Proof Outlets

Child proof electrical outlets are called TRR’s for “tamper resistant receptacles”.   A TRR is an outlet in which the electrical contact is essentially closed off by spring-loaded shutters.  For the shutters to open, both springs must be compressed at the same time, as they would when a plug is inserted.  If only one side is compressed, however, the shutters remain closed. That means if your little one pokes a paper clip inside one of those little “holes” to see what happens, the shutter will prevent the paper clip from becoming fully inserted and thus preventing electrical shocks.

These tamper-proof electrical outlets are so effective that as of 2008 the National Electrical Code (NEC) has required their installation in all new homes.

Studies (and parents) have discovered that those plastic outlet caps only go so far in protecting a little one. Babies learn quickly, and those plastic covers will only thwart their efforts for so long.  In fact, one study found that 100% of children ages 2 to 4 were able to remove the plastic caps in under 10 seconds.
